That sounds like a passion fruit. They take a while to ripen. I don't know what variety passie you have so I don't know if your fruit will be palatable. I usually wait until they drop on their own or fall off at the slightest touch. If you are looking for viable seeds you definitely want ripe or even over ripe fruit.
