P. edulis is the purpl form...p. edulis flavicarpa is the yellow form. If it set fruit by itself, with no help from you, then it is most certainly p. edulis, the purple, and IMHO, far better tasting.

Thanks to you both!!! I am happy to say that I believe that I have the purple fruit.. oooooohhh, I was sooo hoping for that! The plant does set fruit by itself and it has green tendrils..oh happy day!!

Myles, I noticed in the fact shee that you had the purple form as "more acidic". The purple is actually less acidic, with more sugars....or am I mistaken? I know from personal experience that the purple TASTES far sweeter and less acidic, but my tastebuds could be foolinng me. Good to see you chime in here...I haven't "heard' from you in awhile. My actinia is an absolute monster now....but still NO blooms.

You are right re the acidity-I had just spoken from my experience re the yellow which was untypical so have revised site details.

Do you know if your actinia was grown from seed..the bad news is that it appears some clones may not flower....the other possibility is that if it is so cold e.g. -7c that the plant sheds all its leaves that flowering will not be triggered in the spring-its main flower period for me is May/June and a few flowers in Autumn.

I don't know if it was from seed or not...I ordered it from a lady in Washington State in the US, whom touted it as being "successfully overwintered in USDA zone 8A". Mine took repeated temperatures as low as 26 with no problems. I lost a few "growing tips" at 24 degrees, but nothing else. I would say the vine ( or least MY vine, in MY climate) is "leaf" hardy to @ 22 degrees fahrenheit, and "vine" hardy to @ 18-19 degrees fahrenheit, which I hope to not have the displeasure of seeing. I shall give it another spring to "do its thing". If not, it'll feed the compost heap.
