The GF's forms a chrysalis. I don't know if they wander far away from the host plant like some other varieties of caterpillars do. I have Swallowtails and Monarchs and both travel a good distance from the plants they feed on to pupate. The GF chrysalis might also be so well camouflaged that you aren't seeing it. I have loads of passies but not one GF cat : (

The GFs will sometime travel quite a way away from the plant to pupate. Not always, but often. I've seen them hanging from the eaves of my neighbor's house, and others in my back yard far from where they started out.

I also have something new this year. Big, white fuzzy caterpillars I'm only finding on the passis. Never seen them before, and they're not the caterpillar of a zebra longwing or flambeau, two passi-loving butterflies that are supposed to be in our range (actually, I've seen a few flambeau butterflies and cats, so I knew it wasn't them). Anyone have any ideas?

I noticed this exact same thing with mine. Finally I started bringing the caterpillars inside and keeping them in a "bug cage". What I've found is that their chrysalis looks exactly like a dead leaf. They actually bend themselves side ways to enhance the effect, changing position during the day. I never notice caterpillars bigger than 1 cm so I think maybe something is eating mine. When I see them, I bring them in. I have a 100 % success rate doing it this way.
