Do you know if it's P. edulis f. edulis or P. edulis flavicarpa?

The first is self-fertile, the second needs a pollinator.

My big P. edulis 'Nancy Garrison' vine (in the ground) produced no fruit on its first flowers this year. Most later flowers gave fruit.

I think P. edulis f. edulis sometimes doesn't produce fruit when it's hot (over 90). Perhaps someone else can confirm.

Unfortunately, I have no further info and the place (www.cool-auctions.com) is now long gone. Should I get another P edulis variety just to be safe? Is there a good resource on the differences? We've definitely seen some 90+ this summer! thanks

You may be able to tell the difference based on the flower. P. edulis flavicarpa flowers are bigger and they do look different. Unfortunately I don't grow the plant (it doesn't grow in our climate), but here's a picture of P. edulis flavicarpa I found online:

If you have a picture you can post there should be people who can tell if it's P. edulis flavicarpa.. P. edulis f. edulis flowers are smaller and I *think* the filaments are wavier.

I think it's normal even for P. edulis f. edulis to not get fruit for a while after it starts blooming.

P. edulis f. edulis will pollinate P. edulis flavicarpa if figure out it's flavicarpa and you want to get another plant.

That looks like an edulis forma edulis. One thing to try to get fruit is hand pollination. Take some pollen or a whole anther and smear it all over the stigmas. Info on pollination/hybridizing From Myles Irvine's site:

Nope. Shouldn't matter. I routinely self my P. edulis f. edulis with pollen from the same flower. Happy pollinating! Please let us know how it goes...

Here's mine...and it seems to self-pollinate. But, I still use a soft paintbrush to help them along.
