P. Edulis and P. Coccinea -- two large seedlings..?

I have about 12 edulis seedlings and 6 coccinea seedlings. All 18 came up within the same week. I'm wondering do seedlings growth rates vary quite a bit? I have one edulis and one coccinea that are about 6 times bigger than all the other seedlings. Their leaves are 3-4" x 2-3", while all the other seedlings have leaves that are about 1" x .5".

Could these extremely large seedlings be diploids, triploids or tetraploids?

I can post a picture later, if that helps. I'm just really shocked by the difference in size, considering they've all been in the same conditions and are about the same age.

I would venture to guess that this is normal no matter which plant you grow from seeds; some are bigger,faster, healthier, etc. I see it all the time whenever I grow from seed. Paul.

It's simply genetic variability or "Intelligent Design", depending on which "how / why we're here" theory you subscribe to.

Those seedlings are better able to use the current growing conditions than any of the others. Might be interesting to move (more sun, shade, whatever) them & see if any of the others take off.
