They are Gulf Frittalary cats and become beautiful butterflies. I don't know what they can eat besides passion vines. Why don't you post this on the "attracting butterflies" forum? I'm sure someone can help you. Maybe you can even find someone to adopt them. They will completely strip the foliage but it probably won't kill the plant.

They'll only eat passis--they prefer incarnata and Incense, but they'll go for almost any non-red passi in a pinch. They won't kill the plant, which will regrow rapidly. This kind of defoliation is common, which is why I let my Incense suckers grow rather than mowing them down when they appear in my lawn--I move the cats from the main plant to the suckers, and they keep things under control.

When I read "cat" my immediate thought was "get a BB gun" but that won't work so well with catterpillars unless you're a *really* good shot.

They would annoy the heck out of me- I might even pay some butterfly lover to take 'em.
