Only bloom for ONE week? New to Peony - Advice welcome! =)

A few years ago, I see "Sorbet Peony" sold at Walmart, in the flower bulb section. I fell in love! lol But, I decided to 'wait'. When I went back, they were sold out - and I hadn't seen them again, until this year.. So.. I got one. lol

I've been trying to get as much info as I can on Peonies, as this will be my first year, first try. I have some questions, and any advice is welcome!

*Do they really only bloom for one week out of the year?

*Is the foliage attractive throughout the year?

*Do they have to have full sun, or is part shade ok?

*Any good companion plants - or plants to avoid planting near?

*When would be the best time to plant a Peony root, in zone 6 - after last frost, or would now be ok?

*Do they need well drained soil?

*If I plant now/this Spring, when should I expect my first Peony bloom?

*Do they die off in the Winter (like a Hosta), or stay standing (like Roses, in example)?

*Do the roots spread, as Hosta does?

Any tips and advice is MOST welcome! =)
