Newbie to Peonies - Think I made a mistake!

I just started gardening last year and have fallen in love with it. I bought two peony plants (think they're Festiva Maxima?) and they bloomed last year. However, I just found out that I needed to cut back the stems last fall and did not do that. Right now, we have two tall stems left over from last year.

Is there any chance that they will bloom or should I cut back now and hope they come back next year?

Sure they will bloom if not planted too deep. Go ahead and remove the dead stems for last fall by cutting them down to about 4 inches. If you try and remove them entirely you may disturb the new buds for this years stems. Al
