| I planted 12 peonies last spring, and tranplanted another one at fall. 7 of them were from Michigan bulb, they were small and got couple of stems came out last spring. Another 5 from another company, they were much bigger and had 3-5 eyes, but still only couple stems came out, too. Yestersday, I started to remove the mulch. It seems this year, each of peony will not flower because there only one or two eyes developed.
i want to know spring planting is actually hurt the peonies? |

| Most peonies will not flower the first year. It is not so much the number of buds, as it is the mass of roots which contains energy stored from last years leaf production of carbohydrates. Bare root peonies contain very little stored energy and for that reason I always pot them the first year. If I decide to divide my own garden peonies when dormant, they will have plenty of root storage and will almost always flower the first year. Al |
