When to plant Peony roots in zone 7?

I bought a box of 2 Krinkled White & 2 Sorbet peonies roots at Sam's Club on a whim. At $3.47 a root, I couldn't resist!! I usually plant these roots in pots, baby them all summer & plant in fall - but due to new responsibilities, I just won't have the time for all that this year.

I'd like to just plant them in the ground soon. The box says March-April is the time to plant for my zone 7 in VA. Any thoughts as to when in March-April is the best time? At this price, I'm not gonna fret if they don't do well.

Sue,

I would plant them as soon as possible. Definitely, the earlier the better; the roots need to get down before the stems begin to grow. It would have been much better to have planted them last fall. You will probably need to keep them watered pretty good this first summer.
