I think maifleur answered you well in your previous post. But maybe you're feeling impatient...wanting to move them soon.

It can be done. Starting prepping the area you want to move them to NOW by digging in some compost. Then, later in April or early May (the latest), try this advice given to me by a professional gardener when I had to move already budding peonies last June (!!):

Soak the peonies; dig big root ball - packing the dirt toward the plant center with shovel as you dig. Put into large pot or burlap. Replant as soon as possible. Put compost into the new hole. (prep the new area as early as possible with compost) She also recommended shading the plants during midday for awhile after the transplant.

This will work, though no guarentee of blooms for this year. The most knowledgeable folks on this forum always recommend waiting until the Fall. There is a reason that patience is a virtue. ;-D

Hey Judye, Thanks for your answer. I didn't realize that I posted the question twice as I could not find my original post. But my earliest memories of gardening is of me as a 7 year old planting beans seeds and digging them up in a matter of days to see if they were growing. I guess impatience comes natural in the garden. I think I"ll post a new question about earliest memories.
