I purchased 5 peony roots from Costco today. They are beginning to grow shoots so I know they are all healthy and alive. In my area the last frost isnt until May 21st so my ground will be frozen for at least another month and a half.

How long will the roots I bought last for (packaged in a breathable plastic bag with some peat and mulch type fiber) and how should I store them to keep then from dying before I get them in to the ground.

The other question is if they will not last in there current packaging until the end of May (which I suspect) can I plant then in pots and keep them in doors? Which medium should I plant them in if I do that along with what growing requirements will I need to address for them to transplant successfully?
