 o
Spring cleaning ?

The peonies outside my back door look great, and I like to encourage them. My mom suggested that as stems die in the fall, I pull them out; I started doing that last year.

I just realized that, right now, the whole plant is just dead stems drooping to the ground. Should I trim these off - i.e. trim everything down to the ground? Or leave the plant alone? Which is better?

sdrone,
I assume you are talking about herbaceous peonies here and not tree peonies. If herbaceous then you should trim the stems near ground level and put them in your trash that is to be carried off; don't compost these stems.
