planting tree peony

Yesterday a co-worker brought me 3 bare root tree peonies she dug out of her garden. I planted them as I would regular peonies. was this incorrect? I am well aware to plant them in the fall, but didnt know what else to do with them as they were in a plastic bag. Lg gargage bag. they all have nice buds on them. we are having very rainy weather in the 40s and 50s. Do they have a chance of survival? She says they have all bloomed gorgeously in the past. They all had the finer root hairs although one didnt have alot. Do i excpect any bloom this year? any advice would be appreciated. Thank you
