From reading the posts here, it sounds like your peonies might be planted too deeply. They should only be an inch or two under the soil, otherwise they make nice healthy leaves but not flowers. I'm pretty new to this too, and I think some of mine are too deep too; so I'm scratching gently around the sprouts to remove some of the dirt on top of them. My guess is that it won't affect this year's blooms; but that next year should improve. It's just a guess though, I don't know when peonies make their flowers.

Sometimes a peony needs two or three years to establish itself before it produces blooms. If you don't think you planted them too deep, then I'd just wait another year or two.

I think they were too deep.I gently removed some soil around them by hand being careful not to damage the roots. Thanks for the help. Maria
