Anyone have big problem with late frosts damaging Tree Peonies?

GRRRR - I thought I had the PERFECT eastern site planned for my TPs where I could plant shrubs behind them to protect from strong spring winds blowing West to East; also keep them in afternoon shade.
While researching info on TPs, I read that late spring frosts can ruin the flower buds in the morning sun, and they recommended N, S, W exposures! Would simply covering the plant if we have a late frost and removing it in the morning right before sunrise do the trick?

I'm a total newbie at TPs - bought them at a garden center because the bloom looked awesome & they were only 19.99! Glad to hear they can take some cold weather. I won't have any seeds because the blooms faded & I removed them already - sorry! Sue

The damage depends on stage of leaf/bud developement. Length and depth of frost/freeze.

An established plant 4/5 years old is less apt to have damage than one planted last year as the roots have additional energy and may send up new shoots to replace the damaged ones.
