do tomato cages work for peony support?

I have put those hooped tomato cages around my peonies for support this year? Will they work or will the whole thing fall over? I searched for answers but didn't find any. What do you recommend, I've had them for years and this is the first year they've really excelled.

I just saw a Martha Stewart Living episode about supports- and she did say that you could use tomato cages. You may have to take snippers to cut them down some tho. As long as the peony grows through the support rings they should hold up. I think. :)
