Question of Sorbet Peony I planted last Fall?

I planted a sorbet peony at the end of last summer, early fall and there is yet to be any signs whatsoever of a peony shub. I thought I'd start to see something this spring, at least the leaves, is it too early yet? Could a squirel have dug it up and eaten it?

I don't mind waiting the 2-3 years it takes to see blooms but I'd atleast like to know that it's still there and will eventually pop.
