Question of Sorbet Peony I planted last Fall?

| I planted a sorbet peony at the end of last summer, early fall and there is yet to be any signs whatsoever of a peony shub. I thought I'd start to see something this spring, at least the leaves, is it too early yet? Could a squirel have dug it up and eaten it?
I don't mind waiting the 2-3 years it takes to see blooms but I'd atleast like to know that it's still there and will eventually pop.

| Your anticipation is great, just be patient. I planted several bare roots last fall, and some have yet to show while others have sprung forth. Did you plant it with the eyes about 1-2" below and no deeper? In any case, be patient...and don't dig around if you think you planted too deeply...At this stage, you could break the tender shoots, so sit back and wait. |

| It's kind of early still for you, wait awhile longer. Mine are only up a few inches and its lots warmer here. Besides, if they were small bareroots it may just take awhile. A few years ago I planted 5 bareroot, the first year 3 came up, small foliage only. I figured, that's pretty good, they were really inexpensive, like $12, good return for the money. The following year, all 5 came up, foliage, no blooms. The 3rd year, all 5 in full bloom. So don't give up hope, even if you don't seen any greenery this year. |

| Thank you. For some reason, I think I may have planted the bare root deeper then 2-3 inches, but I'm not sure now, I may be getting it mixed up with my tulip bulbs. I'm sure I did as the directions specified. The only thing that worries me is a piece of the root broke off when it was shipped, I sure hope that this didn't damage the bulb. I love peonies and want to purchase a couple more but I'm waiting to see if this one pulls through for me. Then again, I may just purchase a couple more anyway, especially if I can find a sale or a good deal. Thanks for the help and reassurance! Linda |
