Suggestions for evergreen to plant behind TPs?

Hi, all!
I'd like to plant fast-growing evergreens behind my baby TPs to protect them from very strong spring winds that will max out at 4-6 feet. Any suggestions? They will be on a slope in full sun that faces north. Thanx!!!

don't plant any that will complete with their roots. they could use the the pm shade. you know they are a woody plant. we have prety strong winds here but due to their woody syems i've had no damage from wind.dj

Pm in shade is good but am shade is better.

When the sun hits the frozen stems in the morning the side facing the sun thaws but the side away from the sun still has ice crystals. This can cause damage to the plant as the sun side starts to send sap up the stem and meets the ice side resulting in an area that can burst the cells with that area.

Before I lost the tree my happiest tp's were just beyond the drip line of an old apple on the north side of my house.

Before giving a suggestion of evergreens a couple of questions need to be answered. How big is the area you are planting? How close to the tp's do you envision the greenery to be? Are you planning on thinning the evergreens as they grow. Trimming or shaping of evergreens?

I think instead of planting evergreens, I can put a temp. barrier of some sort to protect the blooms from wind. I am thinking now that I'll try the north side of the house & hope for the best! Thanx everyone for advice! Sue
