I think that you should cover them up just to be safe. It would be a shame to lose these flower buds when they are so close to blooming. Use like a large trash can to cover them.

I did not cover my Coral Charm and Abalone Pearl and I think they were damaged by the freeze temp of 28. The stems and leaves with buds were droopy the next morning. I hope the buds are not damaged. Anyway, I am taking no chance tonight as temps are dropping down to 29. I think one more freeze exposure will damage the buds for good. I think Coral Charm is more tender than others.

You could be right, Kousa. Those are 2 that bloom much later in the season here. I got a couple last fall that were actually advertised with a warning about possibility of damage from late frosts, Blonde Vision and Coral Scout, probably should have skipped them but they were both so pretty! I've never had a problem with any others but the extremely late, very cold weather last year probably caused the fewest peony buds to form that I've ever had! Probably at least 1/3 of my established plants didn't put out a bud at all last spring. I've got big hopes for this year, though.....
