They are looking great. I plan on grabbing a few of them at my local gardening store once they finish flowering and drop in price.

Really like High noon, the color is great, I lost mine this year, it had no new growth on it so I dug it up and it has rotted, so I need to find a good garden center that has them or buy on on line

My tree peony produces large double flowers. About two years ago the plant developed side shoots which produce single blooms after the tree peony's flowers are spent. I like both sets of flowers. Has anyone else had this experience with their tree peony and if so can the side shoots be removed without injuring the mother plant as well as saving the secondary side shoots to plant separately?

You have 'suckers' - the shoots from the herbaceous Peony root that your tree Peony is grafted on.

The common recommendation is removing the shoots. I tried to remove shoots, to leave them, and to dig the entire plant up to cut the herbaceous rootstock off.

The last choice was a big mistake. Although the Tree Peony developed good own roots above the graft point, it did not survive after I cut it off from the herbaceous root. It did not die immediately - the poor thing was struggling for a year. Would never do this again.

Removing suckers is supposed to help the main plant to get stronger. I did not notice any difference though. Now, I just leave the suckers as is and enjoy their blooms after Tree Peony is done.

Just my experience.
