Callie's Memory

Any suggestions on making it bloom. Very nice plant and foliage. Have in two different sections of my yard one for eight years the other for six but no blooms. Someone suggested more moisture during summer. One is planted with filtered light, strong light only in afternoon. The other receives light from 10 on. I did have another in a slightly moist location but lost it last year.

It sounds like your peonies are planted too deep. Your planting zone is quite nice for peonies, as is mine. If it has been that many years, they have likely spread. If it were mine, I would dig it up and replant in September. You may not get any blooms the following year, but you have nothing to lose since you haven't had any blooms for years anyway. Be sure to feed with blood meal or bone meal. Dress with compost in the fall but don't cover the eyes. Hope this helps. I can't find a Callie's Memory in my catalog. Wish I could be more help, but I'm really not an expert -- I just grow lots of peonies in my yard.

Callie's Memory is a cross between a tree and herbaceous peonies. Intersectionals are normally planted a little deeper than regular herbaceous.

Sorry but because of the hazards of blood and bone meal I do not use and will never recommend either for use.

Here is a link that might be useful: Callie's pictures

Thanks, Maifleur. Will bookmark that database. Can you tell me about the hazards of bonemeal or bloodmeal? Just curious. Perhaps I too should stop using it.

Cronic Wasting Disease is not killed in the processing of bone or blood meal. I am a meat eater but handling products that are that concentrated, no way.

Before anyone starts on how it is not here in the US, think of Alzheimers(sp). Used to be if you were told you had it your family could expect to have you live a good 10 to 20 years. Several of my fellow employees have had relatives that were diagnosed and died with in a year. Some even less.
