forcing peonies?

My mother has this lovely stand of four peony bushes. Three of them bloom at around the same time. The other is stubborn, and waits until the others are almost fading before she blooms. Is there any way to bring her into line? Or slow the others down? They are just not planted in a configuration that makes that late bloomer look right. thanks, cyd

RE: forcing peonies?

Peonies of different varieties will not all bloom at the same time. With peonies, there are early, mid, and late season varieties.

Usually it is desirable to have peonies blooming at different times, as it extends your peony season.

If she really doesn't like them beside each other and blooming at different times, she could move the peony that blooms later to a different spot in the yard (fall is the best time to move them).

Also, she could divide one of the larger of the 3 peonies that bloom at the same time to fill in the spot of the one that gets moved. Be sure to plant it at the same depth as the others.

If all four of them are the same variety, one of them could be planted deeper than the others, which may affect its bloom time slightly?

Hope this helps.
