What have I done????

I know that you are not supposed to get emotionally attached to your perennials, but I have many plants that have sentimental value to me, in addition to being beautiful plants. One of these plants is a pink peony. I moved it from my father's garden 5 years ago and the following 2 years it bloomed profusely. I moved it, and it bloomed again the following year. I moved it again (I know, I know, but I had just bought a new house when I inherited the peony and had to plant it even though the landscaping was still a work in progress) and it has not bloomed since. It gets the same amount of light, and the soil conditions are the same, but it's short, and has no buds, whereas in the past it was tall and full of flowers. Have I ruined it? Is there a way to tell if it's planted too deeply w/o actually digging it up? This will sound so dumb, but what do the eyes look like?

Thanks!
