Can anyone tell me if there is anything special that I need to do to cut peony blooms for a vase?

RE: Peonies

I've read where you cut them in the "marshmallow" stage, where the bud is soft, but feels like a marshmallow. The color may be showing, but it hasn't opened up, yet.

Make sure to leave enough foliage for your peony to nourish itself for next year. So, leave enough leaves when you cut them, or maybe cut a third of the flowers on the bush.

If you have plenty of blooms, you could even store them in the bud stage in the refrigerator for a couple weeks and enjoy them over time. Give them a fresh cut and stick 'em in water. Don't have any of the leaves setting in the water, if they do, just strip the leaf out.
