Moving peonies

Hi,
I've read all about the best time to transplant peonies (spring or fall, depending on your source), but I need an opinion.
I'm redoing the landscaping in my entire yard, and my peonies are in full bloom right now (5/10/14). I'd like to move them before the fall. If I wait until they finish blooming and move them with as much root intact as possible, will I kill them? I understand I may lose the next year's blooms, but I'm ok with that. I just don't want them to die completely. They'll be moved to a spot where they'll be getting a bit more sun than before, but not the hot Atlanta afternoon broil.
I have other perennials that I need to put in their spot that are just as important in their timing. The peonies just look so messy for the rest of the year after blooming that I want them out of the front yard.

As long as you move them disturbing the roots as little as possible they'll be fine. You'll have to water them more until they become established again but nothing more than you'd have to for your other perennials. Good luck with your new landscape!

I agree. I have moved whole peonies, and sections of peonies all through the season. They do fine if you just keep the roots well watered for a period after so they can settle in. I'd say just move them after they finish blooming. The ones I move have bloomed the next season just fine as well.
