| Today was my first attempt to cross-pollinate tree peonies.
Pollen was applied to the very center of bloom, but the calyx is folded into a point, apparently preventing the pollen from reaching the stigma. Does the calyx eventually open, allowing pollen to enter? |
Follow-Up Postings:
|
| The calyx is most fertile when it is moist. If you watch the plant you will start seeing it glisen. Some tp's will actually have a dew like drop form. The moisture assists the pollen to move downward. |
