I'm in Newport News, so my dates will be a bit earlier than yours, but my earlies bloom in mid April, midseasons in late April-early May, and lates are just finishing up now. Two good resources for you, depending on your exact location, would be to visit Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Richmond (they have an amazing peony collection, including intersectionals, tree peonies, and herbaceous varieties) or Andre Viette's nursery in Fishersville (they have fields of labeled peonies in bloom in May), at the time for which you want a peony to bloom in your garden. You could then actually see what's in bloom at that exact time, and take it from there.

My early, mid, & late-season peonies are all in bloom, so in Roanoke it apparently doesn't mean anything! They're still young plants (2yrs. old) so maybe when they mature it'll be different.

My recommendation for a beautifully fragrant and gorgeous pink peony flower is "Vivid Rose." In New England (zone 6) it's in full bloom in mid-June. Can't say how it would fare in Virginia, but had to share my favorite!
