This morning when I watered my plants and I checked the new planted peony tree, the leaves are a little wilt, but the soil is still moist, not wet. I planted it about 5 weeks, it came was not dormant bareroot as it should, so it lost many buds. Anway it did leaves out. I followed the manafacturer's direction closely, partial morning sun. Today is about 78 degree, could that be hot stress? Well, tomorrow will above 90. I'm new to peony tree. Should I be worry? What can I do? Water, klep spray, or fertlize it?

Any idea?

RE: HELP!!! New planted peony tree wilts

Your tree peony can wilt from being too dry or too wet. Can you check for moisture content in the area? Do not fertilize. A plant wilts when the roots are not able to supply moisture to the leaves as fast as the leaves transpire it away. If you provide some shade you can slow the transpiration. On a hot day some wilt in the afternoon is acceptable but it should not wilt in the early morning. Al

RE: HELP!!! New planted peony tree wilts

I tried watering a wilted peony transplant with a couple aspirins dissolved in water and it may have helped. Since then I use willow water and get the aspirin effect as well as rooting hormone. Just get some willow stems and put in a 5 gallon bucket of water, right side up, and you can harvest the water every couple days. I also shaded them and cut foliage back above the wilted parts. Thanks Al for the advice. They are all looking better now.
