can I plant and grow a peony in a pot??

I want to try to grow peonies, but I don't have a house of my own yet (hopefully in the next 2 years). Is it possible to pot these and get them to frow in large pots. I live in North Carolina and our winters are usually mild, but our summers are hot and humid. If anyone has advise on this subject, I would really appreciate it.

You can grow a peony in a large pot, at least 18 inches I think for the pot. It will need to be planted high in the pot just like in the ground. During the heat of the summer you may need to move it into partial shade to keep the roots from cooking in the pot and requiring very frequent water. Al
