First stab at peonies

I have two peony bulbs. How close together should I plant them, or should I put them in two separate areas?

Would very much appreciate any advice.

Growers here advise 3.5 - 4 feet of space between plants as eventually, over the years, the peony foliage and root will fill that space. You can plant them closer for aesthetic or practical reasons, but you may want to move them farther apart over the years as they grow.
