So, I'll have flowers next spring, right?

Hello all:

I thought I was so smart to order peonies from a catalog last fall. They claimed that there would be 3-5 eyes on each root. Well, there were eyes, but I thought that meant that there would be flowers this spring. Obviously that's a no.

The foliage on mine is between 10 and 20 inches tall, but not nearly as tall as the ones down the street that have flowers on them. Are they just soaking up the sun and gaining strength this summer so they can make flowers next spring?

What's really driving me nuts is that I was at the nursery on Saturday and they had peonies that had 6 non-flower stalks and three flower stalks (so 9 flowers) for about the same price that I paid bleeping *****'s (rhymes with "wrecks") for the roots that aren't flowering.

I seriously thought that they would settle in faster and at least be the same size as the non-flowering stalks next door. Can anybody give me a rough timeline here?

I don't mind waiting, but I hate not knowing...

I mean, is it something like:

First year - no flowers

Second year - 1 flower stalk, three non-flower stalks

Third year - 3 flower stalks, 6 non-flower stalks?

Would sure be great to get some insights from those experienced growers out there...

Thanks in advance for your insights,

Igwiz
