OK - just read from another post that they have tubers and I'm guessing some snapped off and it has sent up some new shoots. Hurrah! But I didn't know this last year and planted loads of irises in that spot and this poor baby is sitting right in the middle of them. I have a lovely spot ready and waiting in the same bed (in fact started fantasing about the possibilities for that space today!) but I'd like to move the peony there. I can do tht now, right? I mean there's no way this little love is going to flower this year, so would it hurt?

Your baby could be a seedling or as you suggested could be from part of a root left behind. Depending on the type some peonies develope what are called blind buds that only develop if necessary. Mark your baby so if the foliage dies back you can find it. About September move it to where you want.

Do I really need to wait until September? I'm fretting because I'm selling up and leaving my beautiful garden *sniff* and don't want to leave my baby at the mercy of the new owners. I just want to know she's ok when I'm gone!

If you are moving dig her up and take her with you. Try and get a large root ball when you do this. You can keep her in a pot for a while. Just make certain the pot is kept cool either by shading or blocking the sun. Direct sun on the pot will cook her real quick.

The same method will help in moving the others if you wish. You might ask your realtor to put in contract that you can take specific plants or dig and put in pots before puting on sale. I have found that the first thing a new owner does is change the landscaping. Perhaps you could have the new people asked to mark what they will not want to keep and allow you to keep those things. I do not want to add stress but depending on how you inherited the others you may want to take some of those with you.
