Peonies in a lot of shade, need advice

My parents bought their house about 16 years ago. There were some gorgeous peonies way in the back of their property. They got the idea they needed to build a privet hedge and I hadn't seen the peonies bloom in about 3 years now.

I moved into their house and have been working in the yard and sure enough there they were, very skinny and not looking too well. Well, I'm sure this is wrong but I pulled one of them up and the roots/crowns were just huge! I took them to the front in a sunny area and immediately replanted it. There didn't seem to be much damage to any roots.

Now that my story is told, I guess my questions are- Is it a good idea to move them? What is the best way and time to do it?

Yes it is a good idea to move them to where they will thrive and bloom. I would wait until the fall when they start into the dormant period and the weather is cooler. Al

Thanks. I will leave the rest of them in place and wait until fall. I am going to see how the one I moved does where it is. That way I have a back up if this one perishes. :)
