Generally, my peonies have done better than usual this year, taller, bigger blooms. But one, a NOID well established pink that usually is a show stopper, has 2 blooms. I don't know if it just didn't like the extra cold winter we had, or just decided to take a rest this year. I'm afraid I haven't really answered your question, but you're not the only one it happened to.

Anna I think your assumption is the correct one. It happens to me, and I sometimes have to take accumulated soil away from around the plant, to get the plant buds back to the surface to get the needed winter chill. Al

And calistoga, I think I learned my lesson - no more insulating my plants with leaves! Let's hope it comes back stronger after a year of blooming rest.
