Is it possible to graft woody stems of itoh peonies?

Since it is possible to graft tree peonies, I don't see why it won't work with itoh peonies. I have plenty of herbaceous rootstock as it tends to keep multiplying, and many of my itoh peonies produce a significant amount of woody stems. That's why I want to try grafting them. Has anyone ever tried it?

I'm also seeing that broken off fragments of an itoh peony root seems to have the ability to produce a small plant as long as the section has a bud on it. My guess is that if a division of an itoh peony is planted sideways in the ground, it will force the entire length of the woody stem to become tuberous, or at least produce roots/tubers from each underground eye. This is getting pretty exciting. I'm even seeing a broken off itoh peony eye that appears to be growing into a small plant, but haven't checked for roots yet.
