Should I remove a flower bud from the new tree peony?

Hi,

I just bought and planted a new tree peony 'Kinkaku' from the local nursery. It is a small plant with a single branch and a flower bud on the top... Now, I am not sure if I have to leave the bud to grow and bloom or should I remove it in order not to exhaust the plant?

I'd let it bloom to see if it's really the named variety you purchased (or something close to the named variety you purchased).

After the bloom fades, just pinch off the flower so it doesn't try to set seed and you should be fine.

I am no expert, but have planted 12 tree peony in my yard in the last couple years. I could only find tree peony in the spring. If I planted them in the spring, they always died back to the ground and started over the next spring. If I kept them in the pot till fall then planted them, It would not die back.
