What are the different bloom times?

I imagine bloom times can differ with zones, but for the life of me, I cannot find any guide. What is classified as very early, early, mid, mid-late and late? I am new to peonies and would say that I have some blooming early (first bloom opened May 22nd), and others about a week later. The Festiva Maxima blooms first, but I swear I have another Festiva in a different spot in the yard (it gets a bit less sunlight than the first) and it blooms full about 2 weeks later.

If Festiva is an early bloomer, then how many days/weeks later could I expect a late bloomer to open? I know this may seem like a rudimentary question when it comes to peonies, but I really can't find anything on it. I would love to extend my peony blooms by getting some late blooming plants, but was hoping for some clarification from you experts. Thanks in advance.

RE: What are the different bloom times?

This link should lead you to a peony bloom time website. Since everyone's climate is different, these things tell you the bloom ORDER, how early or late each cultivar will bloom in relation to the others. So you have to figure out when one of yours blooms, and then you can approximate the date the others will bloom according to it. Of course it's different each year, and microclimates, as you noted with your 'Festiva Maxima,' also can make a big difference. Anyway, click on 'data' and then on the chart specifying bloom order.

Here is a link that might be useful: Peony Bloomdate Project

Thank you very much. Now I can "try" and extend my peony bloom season.
