Older Peonie not blooming this year

My 15 year old double pink peony is not blooming this year and seems to be shorter than other years. A red was planted 10 feet from it at the same time. Although the red if full and has lots of blooms, it is also a little shorter and the blooms a little smaller than previous years. The plants are planted near the road (10 Feet) and are not in a bed. Can I just spray extra dirt away with the hose in the fall if they sunk too deep? Thanks

If they sunk too deep, you better dig them up and replant higher. Do it when the foliage starts to die back, late July or August. Start the shovel cuts well back, around the drip line, and lever up the whole root ball with soil intact around it, then pour in soil beneath it, drop back into the hole and water it in.

If they are left in a depression, water will collect in there and rot them, leaves will collect in fall, etc. Better to plant a little too high, and hill up dirt around them if necessary.

RE: new Peonie not blooming this year

I planted 5 new peonies this April - May. They bloomed great from the nursery. Soon after tall the blooms died, the plants stopped. Great soil, mulched, watered, fed with Peters, Sun. Zone 8. Help

Be more specific. Did they loose their leaves or just stop growing? If they just stopped growing that is what they do. Just like people they reach a certain stage in growth and stop.
Next time you post start your own thread not add on to another. I am saying that but I do it too.

To the original poster soil will wash into a depression and can fill it up. It might be best to dig this fall and divide.

In may areas this year the weather has caused changes in peonies and other plants that have not been noticed before such as different colored leaves and flowers. Also the size of some, my Joker is about a foot tall rather than almost three foot, may have been effected. Feed it with some even fertilizer and hope it returns to normal?? next year.

I have not seen any varigation in my peonies but have several other plants that have come up with varigation this year. Permanent maybe. Some were better plain some better looking as variated.

Sorry I did not proofread well. It should read In many areas, not In may areas.
