grafting peony

i purchased a tree peony. was wondering what type of root stock it is grafted too. i purchased one this year. just put it in the ground. i know it won't do much the first few years. but excited for it to grow and bloom. thanks dena

RE: grafting peony

They are usually grafted onto Herbaceous peony roots. Prepare your planting soil as you would for any peony, just remember to plant 3 or 4 inches deeper than it was in the container. You don't want buds from the roots growing and competing with the tree peony growth. If you are in very hot summer area I would locate where it gets some shade protection from the west sun.
