As long as you keep it watered it should be okay.

I have my best luck in planting things even when "they say" the timing isn't optimal - trying to keep plants healthy in pots for extended periods of time isn't my strong suit.

I planted two large peonies two days ago; not particularly hot here in the summer, and we do get plenty of out of the blue rain and fog - no doubt being close to Lake Superior. The skies blackened and opened up as was walking back for my watering can. Today they're perfectly upright and loaded with buds.

You give your location as Windsor, and l am presuming that is the Windsor Ca. It will be close to 100 today, but my main concern is the mostly blue clay, which does not drain and should be amended with lots of vegetative compost before planting. Your picture is of a healty looking plant, about as mature as you ever find, and if planted properly should do well for you. Al
