Peculiar tree peony blooms

I have been growing various tree peonies for around fifteen years or so. This one went into a new garden two years ago. This was its first bloom, and it is not what I thought I was getting at all... in fact, I've never seen one that looked like this. Anybody have an idea what is going on here?

It is one kind of Japanese tree peony.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It looks like a very healthy plant with a really different flower from what we expect. Enjoy having a peony that will contrast with all your others. Al

It is very healthy, and it is indeed not anything like my others, but it has its own appeal. If it matures into something like that Japanese plant on the website above, I will be plenty happy with it! Thank you!

This Japanese tree peony called ' 胡蝶の舞' in Japanese, meaning 'butterfly dancing', I google and found a lot of images for you:
