1st peony- Karl Rosenfield

Posted by brandyray Coastal NC (My Page) on

I found it half price at a nursery and, knowing I would pay about that to order it and get a bulb, I yielded to temptation rather than waiting until fall. I'd like to hear from others who have this peony, how hardy is it? Will it flower next yr? It is a well-shaped little plant, maybe a ft tall at the most. Thanks. Brandy

Karl is a lovely peony.

about 2 1/2 to 3" tall
about 2 1/2 to 3" wide

Karl is said to be fragrant (per a search) but I have not found him to be very fragrant, especially in comparison to so many other really fragrant ones.

It is hardy in zones 3-8 so it should do well for you. I think there is a very good likelihood that you will have a bloom (or maybe 2) next season...but then I am an optimist.

'Some' of the bare root purchases I planted last fall, bloomed this spring.
I'm like you...would not have been able to resist buying it now, on sale, and healthy.
