I have received a couple peony sets, I have heavy clay soil down about a foot. Will peont primevere thrive in this soil? How close can these be planted to pine trees?
Follow-Up Postings:

Pine tree needles make the soil very acid, which is not good for peonies. They prefer slightly alkaline soil.

There are many websites out there that talk all about peonies and their care. I was just reading they must have well drained soil, so clay is an absolute no no. : )
