digging and dividing 20+ year old peony

gata

Yesterday I dug an old peony (Sarah Bernhardt). The roots were massive, lots of breakage. Some of the older roots were hollow, and there was some rotting going on. I've been dividing it up, but good looking roots seem very scarce. There are plenty of eyes, however. Also, there is the problem of botrytis. This spring in NH was very wet, and these Sarah Bernhardts especially were devastated with what I assume was botrytis. My question: Will these divisions be okay? Should I treat them with a bleach solution soaking?

Thanks for any insight.
