Is this space too narrow to plant peonies?

Hi,

Do you think it might be possible to plant a bed of peonies between the patio of my townhouse and a brick wall at the edge of my property? The soil is loamy and friable, has a pH of 6.5, and gets partial sun to full sun. The main problem is that this patch of ground is quite narrow: about 17' long, but only 1.25' wide. In case it helps, the wall is only on one side; the other side is the patio, so the peonies will have room to grow up and out over the patio; it's just the roots that I think will be affected by these dimensions. (I hope that makes sense.)

Assuming the space is not too narrow, would it be overly ambitious to plant 4 or 5 peonies spaced about 3' to 4' apart?

I am new to peonies, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much,
Saki
