Too late to plant peonies in Zone 5 IL?

Posted by linnea56 z5 IL (My Page) on

Saw a bunch of quart sized peonies on clearance for $2.50. Peonies around here are always VERY expensive. Are they worth buying, or is it too late to plant?

Or... is a quart too small to plant, considering how slowly peonies grow?

Thanks!

At $2.50 what do you have to lose? Although the recomendation is to plant in fall you can put peonies in the ground all year. Of course being fall right now you should have no problem and the small plants should catch up with the larger ones in a couple of years.

I agree. Go for it! You don't have much to loose and plenty to gain.
