Anyone buy Heavenly Scent Tree Peony from Michigan Bulb?

I bought 3 of the same tree peony from Michigan Bulb in 2008 for $15.99, they claim they were named Heavenly Scent. They were pictured as and eventually bloomed a single white. I am trying to find out if they actually have a name, Heavenly Scent doesn't seem to be a registered name, nor can I find a reference to it anywhere other than the copy of my Michigan Bulb receipt. Anyone out there have any idea of how I can find out what my trees actually are? I added a pic of the shrub, zoomed to see the leaf structure.

And these are the blooms, probably around 4" across, not significantly fragrant.

Look for a peony name that translates to Heavenly Scent or something close. Most do not read the language which the flower originated from so reputable vendors translate for you.

I had a similar question about lilies from Breck's. At another member's suggestion I emailed their customer service department and asked for the specific cultivar or botanical names. I got a response within a few days!

Definitely worth a try!

Redwolfdoc, I'm considering that one or Peonia Ostii, the parent of Phoenix White. I need to pay much closer attention to the leaf structure this spring to make a determination. To me, the Phoenix White is fuller (and prettier, unfortunately!) than my blooms, Ostii looks closer. It'll probably turn out to be an unnamed seedling of Ostii. And I'll try Michigan Bulb customer service, thanks for the suggestion!

Oh that's actually very pretty! I'm more and more fond of the singles because they don't need staking. ;)

Kousa, that one does look a lot like mine! I'm pretty sure it's either Ostii or a mixed seedling of it. Wish I had more sources nearby to compare live plants to, think that's as close to an ID as that one's going to get....

I didn't read closely and thought that was a herbacious (thus the comment about staking) lol. Still very pretty!

Got a reply from Michigan Bulb! Their information sheet identified it as Paeonia suffruticosa 'Feng Dan Bai' so it is Phoenix White. Don't know where they got that "Heavenly Scent" name but it's nice to be able to label them correctly!

That's great! Especially since you said you find Pheonix White prettier than Ostii!

You've got to wonder why some places give their plants arbitrary names. I've found Breck's in particular likes to do that! I'm 100% with you on wanting to label accurately! lol
