hopeless situation?

I was shopping at Home Depot and there were about 20 beautiful peony bushes-some were blooming. Of course I had to have one but ... what to do with her?

It is labeled paeonia lactiflora-mine has three big dark pink/red buds. The leaves are divided. It is a beautiful plant. But is she doomed?

I live in zone 9-very hot San Joaquin Valley in Cali. I have been doing a lot of reading-but thought I would come to the experts. I have two locations I was thinking of planting her:

one faces west but is under a crab apple that would shade in the hottest part of the day, also a heritage rose is nearby to throw more shade in the summer or

I have a spot in the back yard with much more shade-faces east under a very large old rose (its on an arbor). I have hydrangeas, azaleas and violets growing there. Gets some sun but not sure its 6 hours..

any advice? will this beautiful plant be happy here?
