This pic was taken in December. Nothing happened all year.
I use to have a herbaceous peony but the buds were round and the flowers bloomed in May.

This bud is right at the top of my tiny tree. I'll keep
an eye on this bud. If nothing bites off the bud, I'll post another picture.

My tree peony usually buds out in April and blooms at the beginning of May. Last year we had that terrible Easter freeze and I was so worried about those buds that I put a big black garbage can over the whole thing with a big stone on top (I live right on Lake Erie and the temps were 15 below zero with 45mph winds!). I don't know if it was because of that or if I'd have been alright with the freezing temps anyway, but it bloomed beautifully.

My tree peonies always bloom in the spring before the herbaceous peonies. This time of year the seed pods are ripe and the foliage has its fall colors. The timing of your peony is most curious. Al
